Job Title: Azure Data Engineer

Location: Onsite - Washington, DC

Employment Type: Contract-to-hire

Compensation: Up to 145,000/Year

We are looking for a highly skilled Azure Data Engineer with strong data science expertise to join our data team. This hybrid role combines deep experience in Azure-based data engineering with statistical modeling and machine learning capabilities to deliver end-to-end data solutions that support analytics, automation, and decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, and Azure Databricks.
• Develop and maintain data lakes and data warehouses on Azure to support business intelligence and advanced analytics.
• Extract, clean, and transform large, complex datasets using pandas, NumPy, SQL, and Azure Data Services.
• Build and deploy machine learning models using Azure Machine Learning, Databricks, or frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Apply statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to validate data insights and model performance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions, and communicate findings clearly to non-technical audiences.
• Monitor and optimize model and data pipeline performance in production environments.
• Ensure data governance, privacy, and security best practices across Azure data solutions.
• Stay current with trends in cloud data engineering, data science, and Azure technologies.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data science, or a related role.

Strong experience with:

• Azure Data Lake, Synapse Analytics, Data Factory, Databricks, SQL Database
• Python or R, SQL, and data manipulation libraries (pandas, NumPy)
• Machine learning frameworks (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
• Visualization tools (Power BI, Matplotlib, or ggplot)
• Familiarity with CI/CD, version control (Git), and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Experience with big data tools such as Spark or Hadoop is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Certifications:

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203)
• Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Engineer Associate (or equivalent)
