Job Description

Amentum is seeking a **Firefighter** who will be assigned to a crew engaged in firefighting, hazardous materials response, various rescue operations, and the reduction and/or elimination of potential fire hazard for the AEDC Program located at **Arnold AFB, TN.**

**Responsibilities**

+ Exercises caution to avoid damage/loss of property including injury to self and others. Ensures safe/prompt arrival of assigned personnel, vehicles, & equipment at emergencies.

+ Complies with health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment. Promptly and accurately reports unsafe conditions or injuries sustained while on duty to the appropriate supervisor.

+ Works as part of a company of firefighters performing structural fire suppression, airport rescue and firefighting, emergency first aid, Hazardous Materials (HazMat) response, technical rescue, and limited natural cover firefighting.

+ Maintains firefighting equipment and fire station facilities by performing functional tests and inspections, performing preventive maintenance on equipment, and performing housekeeping duties within assigned facilities

+ When first to arrive at the scene, establishes Incident Command and takes charge of all firefighting or emergency response activities until relieved by a more senior firefighter

+ Identifies, reports, and protects evidence indicating cause of fire, especially during salvage and overhaul operations

+ Becomes fully trained and certified to drive and operate all assigned support vehicles and qualifies to drive and operate specific fire apparatus, tools and equipment when assigned such a tasking by fire protection managers or supervisors.

+ Renders BLS/ALS emergency medical treatment according to ones individual training and certification

+ Participates in practice drills and training classes in accordance with the Annual Training Plan encompassing all phases of firefighting techniques, equipment maintenance and use

+ Supports or manages assigned fire and safety related programs. Conducts tests, performs inspections, conducts training, and documents results as each program requires using automated computer programs or other methods as directed.

+ Performs duties in other Fire Department job classifications as required, provided all necessary certification/licensing requirements of the assigned job are maintained

+ Performs pre-fire planning by physically viewing structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protection systems and creates or maintains written pre-fire plan form

+ Ensures duties are performed in accordance with the Performance Work Statement and applicable directives including but not limited to Department of Defense (DoD) and USAF Instructions, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards, and Company policies and procedures

+ Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested

**Minimum Requirements**

+ **Three** years of progressive experience as a full-time Firefighter with a regular professional paid firefighting force or equivalent experience

+ Possess all certifications, to include prerequisite certifications, which are required for a Firefighter in accordance with the DoD Instruction 6055.06M, _DoD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Certification Program_ (HAZMAT Awareness; Fire Fighter I; HAZMAT Operations; Fire Fighter II; Airport Fire Fighter*)

+ Trained and qualified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and must maintain current state or national Basic Life Support emergency medical care certification

+ Have no physical defects or grooming habits which would impede ability to wear protective clothing and equipment, climb ladders, and perform other strenuous tasks under adverse conditions

+ Submit to and pass (prior to assignment of duty) an initial physical examination which conforms to NFPA 1582, _Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments_ and pass the same physical examination annually thereafter

+ Participate in mandatory physical fitness program

+ Possess a valid state drivers license and be capable of driving and operating all support vehicles, and drive/operate fire suppression vehicles if duty assignments require

+ Capability to attend and successfully complete on- and off-site training courses and any certification required by the Air Force and company

+ Must be able to obtain NACI eligibility within 90 days of hiring and gain/maintain access to the AEDC local area computer network at all times

+ **Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance if required by future needs**

+ Participate in recurring proficiency training program and conduct training classes and evolutions as directed by supervision.

+ Possess requisite certifications from either the International Fire Service Accredidation Congress (IFSAC) or the National Professional Qualification System (Pro-Board) prior to selection for hire. Possession of Airport Fire Fighter (AFF) certification is contingent upon mission requirements based on the presence of an aircraft fire fighting mission and may be added as a prerequisite certification

+ When added as a requirement, employees shall have a maximum of 12 months to achieve AFF certification

+ Possess a valid Class D state Drivers License.

**Additional Responsibilities**

Employees in this position may be exposed to out-of-control fires, HAZMAT spills, or possible explosions and may suffer from burns, dehydration, effects of heat, smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, or falling materials. Employees could be subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HAZMAT and high noise levels. They must deal with victims in emergency situations who may be in varying stages of fright, panic, injury, or shock. There may be hazards while operating or riding fire trucks under adverse conditions and the employee works outside in all types of weather conditions. Employee may be required to move charged fire hoses, fire extinguishers and other equipment, must be able to wear encapsulating suits or protective clothing weighing 50 pounds or more, and climb ladders and work at various heights. Basic physical requirements include walking, bending, stooping, stretching, climbing, running, and lifting well over 100 pounds. At times, work will be done in an office environment.
